The $13.5 million contract included the construction of a two-story, 11,811-square-foot Tier III Cable Landing Station/Data Center facility at Piti, Guam. The facility has a generator room, communication equipment rooms, and administrative offices. It houses complex redundant power, telecom, fire, and HVAC systems.
The elevated concrete structure was designed to withstand high wind speeds of 170 miles per hour and earthquake seismic category D. This project meets the Uptime Institute’s Tier III commercial data centers standards.
Pacific Rim excavated and added two feet of drain rock to prevent a high-water table and provide the facility with a more stable foundation.
The successful completion of this project elevated the importance of Guam as a vital hub for undersea cables in the Asia-Pacific region. This project enables the owner to provide seamless interconnection for existing and new cables and onward connectivity to Asia, Australia, and the United States.
